β€˜The Economist’ publishes letter by Anouar Majid

On July 26, 2014, The Economist published a letter to the editor by Anouar Majid, Ph.D., vice president for Global Affairs and director of the Center for Global Humanities.  Majid’s letter was in response to a previously published story β€œThe Arab world: Tethered by history.”

In his letter, Majid notes that Morocco is β€œmore liberal and stable than most of the β€˜progressive’ republics created in the aftermath of European colonialism.”  Arab states, in contrast, he argues, will only β€œreverse the decline of their civilizations” when β€œthe entire Islamic legacy [is] subjected to rigorous intellectual analysis, much like when Judeo-Christian traditions were scrutinized by the probing questions of Enlightenment thinkers.”
